Simon Sinek said, “People don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it.” This quote has always resonated with Shocklogic, so much so that Simon Sinek’s book, Start with Why, is the influence behind one of our company’s core values. We believe that starting with why is an effective way to help us make decisions, understand our motivations, and achieve the best possible results.
When we talk about why we’re talking about purpose. Why do we do what we do? Why do we get out of bed in the morning? And why should anyone care? These are all critical questions we ask ourselves as individuals and as a company.
Our why is our driving force, and it’s what sets us apart. It’s what motivates us to do what we do, and it’s how we inspire our customers to work with us. It’s what makes us stand out from the crowd, it’s what makes us unique.
Discovering our why definitely takes time and effort, but it’s worth it. We have to ask ourselves tough questions and really think about what drives us. Although this isn’t always an easy thing to do, once we find our why, everything else should start to fall into place.
It’s also important to remember that our why can and will change, as everything else does in life. It can expand and contract, and it can change direction. We will likely have more than one why in connection to different aspects of our lives, so we have to keep an eye on how our why changes over time.
Knowing our why is the key to staying passionate about our work, our career, and all other parts of our lives. When we know why, we have a purpose that drives us forward. We have a reason to get out of bed in the morning, and we have a reason to keep going, even when things get tough.
